How to Use Social Status to Make Your Cold Outreach Irresistible
Real world applications and templates
In a sales environment where as soon as someone sniffs out that you’e cold calling, or selling, their guard is up and they immediately shutdown.
How do you circumvent this?
With anything in life, the most attractive elements of an interaction with any person are always correlated to social status. Dating, business, friendships, and even selling.
Let’s break down a few simple ways to achieve this when you’re doing outbound or engaging with prospects.
Keep in mind that I work with growth accounts but can share how you’d apply this to cold outreach. The key here is using names instead of referring to BU’s.
It’s not bad if you refer to BU’s or initiatives, but establishing social status is going to be far more powerful.

Here are some templates I’ve been using:
Title: {Insert Your Company} // {Prospect Company}: Intro via {Name}
Received your name from {insert contact name} after suggesting some ways we can help with {insert xyz initiatives} based off of your recent Q1 financial reports.
There may be some ways that we can help with {use case 1} and {use case 2} to better {accomplish outcome} for {relevant company challenges}.
Thought it might be interesting for you to know how we can help.
Do you have time next week to connect?
Template 2:
Title: FW: {Insert Relevant Trigger} + {Insert Value Prop}
As you’re hopefully aware {insert company name} is using {your company} for {xyz use cases}.
I’m working with {insert senior leader of BU name} and {insert another senior leader of BU} on {xyz initiatives}.
Came across your recent {podcast, article, interview} on {xyz challenge} and think we can help by {insert your POV}.
Let me know if it’s worth sharing more over the next couple of weeks or if you’d prefer me to send over resources to start.
How to apply this to New Business?
Based on triggers that you find, I’d suggest cross referencing your CRM or Gong to find much more pertinent info on the subset of accounts that you’re going to be prioritizing in outreach.
Leveraging this template combined with the points above will, at the very least, get attention, have your note forwarded along, or result in a response/meeting. I’m seeing this work with my current org.
Here’s a solid starting point:
End of the day, this might be a little more work before doing outreach BUT - you’re being more efficient since you’ve already established social status which shows you can be trusted.
Try it out.

Building and refining outreach templates is a great way for a cold opening. Also reusable for current customers when sharing updates. Great points.
